Christian Stained Glass

The stained-glass window appeared in buildings from the 10th century on in the West. By the 10th century, stained-glass depictions of Christ and biblical scenes were found in French and German churches and a variety decorative designs were found in England. The newfound ability of large, stained-glass windows to modify human perception of large interior spaces, in striking ways, doubtless inspired the unprecedented construction of the cathedrals during this time.

The Davies Window

The "Davies Window" is dominated by greens and blues and is more spartan than some of the other windows. Trinitarian symbols appear as usual but most of the window is comprised of green and gold panels. The carpentry needed to support stained-glass windows can be almost as complex as the window itself.
